Artist Biography
Bobby Halvorson voice
Bobby Halvorson is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from Northern California. After graduating with a BFA from UC Santa Barbara, Halvorson began working on his second original musical with Murray entitled "Bermuda." During this time Halvorson applied to several Masters programs for music composition and wound up being accepted to the California Institute of the Arts to continue his education in music composition. Under the instruction of Wolfgang von Schweinitz and Anne LeBaron, he discovered a new and more experimental voice both figuratively and literally while working on extended vocal technique including throat singing and overtone singing. He continued his work on "Bermuda" and in January 2009 had a production of Murray's and his original musical at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica involving performers like Bryce Dallas Howad and Josh Gad. Since this success, Halvorson has continued to work on more theater pieces, short films, and works involving extended vocal techniques and is currently in his second year at CalArts with the intention of graduating with an MFA in Spring of 2010. Following this, he hopes to pursue a doctorate and eventually teach composition and theory at a university level and continue to compose for theater and film.
