Artist Biography
Dog Star Orchestra
The Dog Star Orchestra was formed by Michael Pisaro as a means of performing large scale pieces from the experimental music repertoire (from three categories): classic works, not often performed (by Cage, Wolff, Feldman, Tenney, Lucier, etc); foreign works receiving local premieres (with performances in 2009 of new music from England, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Austria and Japan), and new works by local DSO members. The group has presented a two-week festival at various locations in Los Angeles in June every year since 2005. The roster varies somewhat from year to year, but always includes some of the most interesting young (and not-so-young) experimental musicians in the area. This performance marks a rare winter appearance by the group.
